Homestead High School in Mequon, Wisconsin is a perennial football power in the state. It has also sent a fair share of players into Division 1 college football. The next in line could be Donte Phillips, one of the most highly touted football players in the Badger State for 2011.
Phillips is no stranger to the state of Michigan. He was born in Ypsilanti and resided there until his family moved to Wisconsin when he was three. Donte has already been to the Michigan campus numerous times in the past few months. His Highlanders had a great season (10-1), but came up short in the state playoffs losing to eventual runner-up Menomonee Falls. Phillips was somewhat limited as he broke the middle finger of his right hand around half way through the season. Still, he was invited to the U.S. Army National Combine in San Antonio, and performed very well.
Analysis: Phillips shows a good nose for the ball, and has a pretty good motor. He also has a good initial burst at the snap. Like most young players on the DLine, Donte needs a little work on keeping his pad level down at the point of attack. I'm looking for Phillips to have a great senior, and hopefully earn his UM offer.
Please keep checking in for more information about Donte in the coming months.
