Prep: (FR) Did not play or not stats reported. (SO) Caught 3 passes for 93 yards and a TD week one vs. East Lee County. Against Lemon Bay had 4 catches for 123 yards and a TD. Finished season with 23 catches, 523 yards and 7 touchdowns while making 31 tackles, 1 sack and 2 interceptions defensively. (JR) Recorded 4 catches for 161 yards and 3 touchdowns week four against Gulf Coast. Two weeks later recorded 7 catches for 198 yards and a touchdown. Had 3 catches for 182 yards a 55 yard rush and three touchdowns week 10 against Collier. Backed that up with a 7 catch 162 yard 1 touchdown to end the season against Lehigh. Finished season with 46 catches, 1,192 yards and 14 touchdowns receiving, 8 carries 103 yards and a touchdown rushing, 16 tackles and three interceptions defensively. (Career) Has 69 catches for 1,715 yards receiving and 21 touchdowns on offense. Defensively has 37 tackles, one sack and 5 interceptions.
Analysis: A great combination of size and speed Sammy Watkins will be one of the top recruits in the 2011 class. He is a great route runner and gets in and out of his breaks as good as anyone. With the ball in his hands his size allows him to break many tackles. Displays great acceleration allowing him to blow by defenders. Has a great set of hands catching everything that comes his way. Defensively he is great in coverage and is good at anticipating routes however his open field ability is too good to waste on defense at the next level.
