MSZ checks out the Pro Stars Football/Sports Zone High School Recruiting Combine
On May 23rd MSZ was on-hand to check out the Pro Strars Football/Sports Zone High School Recruiting Combine. The event took place at the SportsZoneNJ Monroe Complex. For more information on how to host a sporting event with SportsZoneNJ please go to the website link: SportsZoneNJ Website
Pro Stars Football was started by former NFL players Charlie Rogers and Jay Bellamy. Their biographies and company information can be found at prostarsfootball.com.
The combine was the first annual event and needless to say was a success. The
student-athletes in attendance were given the privilege of being instructed and trained by not only former NFL players but also College-level positional coaches. The combine was an all-inclusive day with events ranging from 40 yard-dashes, shuttle runs and a weight-lifting competition to individual position drills, squad position drills and concluded with an extremely competitive 7-7 event.
Michigan Sports Zone was able to catch up with 2011 LB Prospect (who visited UM for the Spring Game and is scheduled for visits to some other D-1 schools very soon) LB Andre Hodge
at the event. We will have a story and video of his performance up in the next few days.

Recruiting Quickie: Spring Game Visitors Part I
The Maize and Blue Spring Game always brings an exorbitant amount of attention in regards to recruiting. One great aspect of the Spring Game is the amount of recruits that are at the The Big House. Wolveirne nation will be able to see lots of prospects standing along the sidelines. Some notable prospects that will be attending this year include:
Recruiting Tidbit: Many people around the recruiting world believed Maika was a "lock" to Penn State. After all Maika comes from a long line of talented football players in the Polamalu family. In fact, so many people believed the myth, Maika had to come out and publicly say he wasnt a lock to Penn State and that he was looking at all schools. Maika is a great LB/S prospect who would fit well in Greg Robinsons defense. He would do very will playing in Craig "Death" Roh's spot.
Sports Zones Bottom Line: Michigan has a good shot with Maika. Dont expect a commitment at the Spring Game or immediatley afterwards but a good showing by Michigan could put them in a good spot.
****Update: Maika wont be able to attend the Spring Game due to a track meet this weekend. Look for Maika to come up to Ann Arbor later on to take part in a camp********
2. Philadelphia, PA DE Deion Barnes: Sports Zone profile
Recruiting Tidbit: In the just the past month or so, Deion Barnes's recruitment has been heating up. He has been offered by Maryland, Penn State, University of South Carolina and Pitt. Deions size and his athleticism will surely attract him more offers once the spring evaluation period ends.
Sports Zones "Bottom Line": One of the greatest things about Deion coming to Ann Arbor this weekend is so he can learn about Michigan. Deion has seen the winged-helmets on T.V. but doesnt know much about the school. Deion isnt looking to end his recruitment any time soon he will take his time and evaluate each school that has offered. Dont expect a commitment from Deion (if offered) at the Spring Game but expect for Michigan to be in serious contention for a commitment at a later time if they were to offer. **Look for a possible offer this weekend***
3. Syracuse, NY LB Antoine Pozniak: Pozniak visits LSU
Recruiting Tidbit: Antoine will be attending Oak Ridge Military Academy next year (prep school) but he is a player that came into the recruiting world late last year. A year at prep school allows him to work on his abilities and have some extra time to get exposure and garner some offers.
Sports Zone Botton Line: Look for Michigan to be a major contendor if they offer Antoine. I wouldnt expect a commitment right away but Michigan would be one of the top schools in contention for his services if they were to offer.
4. Exton, PA RB Drew Harris (2012): Sports Zone profile
Recruiting Tidbit: Drew Harris is looking like he can become a highly-touted 2012 RB prospect next year. He has already made headlines by amassing over 2,000 yards last season alone. A hard-charging runner out of Downingtown East HS, he is starting his recruting process a little early by getting around to different schools and getting a feel for how the campus looks and the atmosphere of the schools in general. This weekend he will be fully taking in Michigan!
Sports Zones Bottom Line: Since he is an underclassman Michigan wont be offereing him this weekend. Drew is going to be watching the Spring Game and seeing how the Michigan campus looks and get a feel for Michigan in general. His trip to Michigan is on his own accord. 6. Aberdeen NJ, LB Andre Hodge: Sports Zone profile
Recruiting Tidbit: Andre is a sleeper in the 2011 class. He is being courted by some smaller schools and recently UConn has jumped into the mix for his services. He is scheduled to attend a camp at UConn in June and should walk off with an offer. Andre has great instincts at the LB position. He is a super-smart kid with a 4.2 GPA. He is an extremley hard worker who is going to be a steal for which ever school he chooses.
Sports Zones Bottom Line: Andre isnt looking to commit to a certain school right away. Right now his family and him are taking in all of his offers and evaluating each one to find out where he fits best. Michigan probably wont offer Andre this weekend but one never knows if an offer will be coming down the line.
7. Freehold, NJ LB Jazzmar Clax (2012): Sports Zone profile
Recruiting Tidbit: Jazzmar is a player who is looking to have a breakout JR year. IMO he needs to break over 100 tackles this year so he can really put himself on the map. Jazzmar is a talented and competitive player!

Michigan Sports Zone was on-hand for Badger 7-7 at Rutgers
Michigan Sports Zone was on hand for the Badger 7-7 competition at Rutgers University on Saturday 27 Feb. The event hosted many top prospects from 11 different states. At the end of the day, the speedy team from New Jersey dominated the event. Opposing teams were not able to match-up with the teams speed and skill set on offense or defense.
Quickies from the event:
1. Miles Shuler: UM OFFER Profile (pictured 3rd from left after Baines and Huggins) was sensational. He is able to use his elite level speed to create seperation from recievers. He is quick and shifty and can pivot without losing his top-end speed. Top corners at the event simply could not keep up with him. At one time he was double-teamed in the end zone and still came down with the TD. Shuler has "sticky hands" he is a consistent catcher with the ability to adjust to the ball and make a play. On another one of Shulers TD catches he caught the pass on a cross pattern and used his speed to outrun everyone to the endzone. For Shulers last TD pass he simply outran the defender and the QB throw it up for Shuler to catch. Michigan has offered this talented prospect. In an interview with Michigan Sports Zone he said about the offer "its Michigan, its big time!" Michigan fans should be excited about this prospect he has the skill set and speed to make an impact for the Maize and Blue.
3. Ronald Baines: profile Ronald "Duke" Baines is a sleeper DB/S prospect. Baines played very well at the event. He held his own against some of the areas top recievers. Baines was consistently breaking up plays and batting down balls. He is a physical defender who has a good break on the ball. Against taller defenders he is not afraid to go up and go after the ball to make a play. Baines is an excellent open field tackler. He is one of the best "sleeper" defensive prospects in the 2011 class for the Northeast region.
6. Quinton Alston-Rivals profile is another sleeper in the 2011 class. He currently holds just one offer but he is a noticable leader on the field. Michigan Sports Zone will have more information about Quinton soon.

Damiere Byrd profile (who was just offered by Louisville) also played very well. His speed and great route running abilities allows him to create a gap of seperation between him and the defender. Once the ball is in his hands he is able to use his speed and vision to make gain considerable yardage after the catch. Like Shuler, Byrd is a consistent catcher who isnt known for dropping too many passes. Byrd doesnt spend a lot of time on the line of scrimmage. He is able to shed defenders off of "bumps" and get onto his pattern. Top defenders in the event had a hard time keeping up with Byrd to effectivley defend him.

Huggins was a "shutdown" defender. He is a vocal player who consistently challenges his opponents. It is easy to see how much he loves football and how passionate he is about the game. Huggins would also make a good defensive prospect but will be using his offensive talents to make an impact at the next level.
5. LB Andrew Hodge Scout profile is a player that caught the eye of analysts. Hodge has a good amount of muscle on him. A poor reciever came into his area on a cross pattern and he actually laid him out. It was all instinct. Hodge felt bad about it and the player was just fine. It goes to show he plays football with the utmost intensity. Look for more information about Hodge to come soon.

HD's Octagon----Welcome to Willis' World
Good day my fellow Wolverines..Welcome to round 2 of "HD's octagon"... Well, I don't know about you but, I absolutely love the full 2010 recruiting class...There are so many under-rated players and kids with so much potential I don't know where to begin!?! I guess I will start with the depth chart and give a little info that I've heard and also my opinion on the matter...I am listing who I think will be starters first in each category..I will also list possible position shake-ups after this is complete...I'll add a some things I am looking for next year and every once in a while provide a recruiting guess(which will all be opinion by the way) and should add a little fun to this site as we welcome comments on that subject or others..Thanks for your continued support and recommendations..This is going to be an exciting Spring..
2010 Depth Chart:
Quarterbacks:
1. Tate Forcier(sophomore 6'0, 193 lbs) he has added 5-8 lbs of muscle in the off-season and will be the starter next year (imo)
2. Denard Robinson(sophomore 6'1 197 lbs) D-rob is up 11 lbs from this time last year(his legs are huge from last year) Can you say, durability? I can!! Now that we have QB depth, the coaches can use their "toys" more efficiently..
3. Devin Gardner(Freshman 6'5 215 lbs) the FUTURE of UM football at the QB spot
4. Nick Sheridan(RS Senior 6'1 212 lbs) Future coach somewhere (imo)..very smart kid
5. Conelius Jones(Freshman 6'3 187 lbs) Athlete who could play several positions if he feels "buried" at the QB position..
Running Backs:
Super-back position
1.Fitzgerald Touissant(RS Freshman 5'10 197 lbs) Toss up with FT and MS, I have a GREAT feeling about him(alwasy have)
2.Michael Shaw(Junior 6'1 194 lbs) He HAS to step up this year
3.Austin White(Freshman 6'0 187 lbs) Kid is perfect for this system
4.Teric Jones(5'9 190 lbs) Kid is solid muscle
5.Vincent Smith(5'7 184 lbs) He would be my #1 but (imo) he will sit out all year and earn a RS
Max-back:
1. Mike Cox(RS Sophomore 6'0 220 lbs) More on this momentarily
2. Stephen Hopkins(Freshman 6'0 240 lbs) coaches want him at 230 and is very UNDER-rated
Some of you might have noticed that I have Mike Cox at Max back instead of Super back...I believe you will see this happen for a couple reasons...1..He has gained good weight, he can block well, he has good speed, he is one of our BEST pass catchers out of the back-field and most importantly, I believe Mark Moundros is being moved in Spring to an LB position so, Mike Cox is the PERFECT fit at this position (imo) at a position of need!! Unless we are going to really "open it up" this year on offense and the FB position is not needed as much with different formations and players being added..Did I say this is going to be an exciting Spring yet?
Slots:
1.Martavious Odoms(Junior 5'9 175 lbs) his blocking gets overlooked (imo)
2.Roy Roundtree(RS Sophomore 6'0 179 lbs) Thanks Mr. Tiller..We fans loved his contributions
3.Jeremy Gallon( RS Freshman 5'8 171 lbs) Wild card for starting slot (imo) and punt returner
4.Kelvin Grady(RS Junior 5'9 171 lbs) let's hope another year provides confidence
5.Drew Dileo(Freshman 5'10 177 lbs) true football player..
6. Terrance Robinson(RS Sophomore 5'8 174lbs) I will save my comment until after Spring, IF it goes that far..

1. Junior Hemingway(RS Junior 6'2 217 lbs) Only lock as starting WR this year (imo)
2.Daryl Stonum(Junior 6'2 202lbs) 2 and 3 will be competing for the other spot this Spring...
3.Jeron Stokes(Sophomore 6'0 185 lbs) with his versatility he will line-up at slot as well..book it
4.Ricardo Miller(Freshman 6'3 198 lbs) Great hands and size
5.Jerald Robinson(Freshman 6'2 186 lbs) Have been saying for months that he WILL be special in time..
Tight Ends:
1. Kevin Koger( Junior 6'4 247 lbs) match-up nightmare, needs to be more consistent
2.Martell Webb(RS Junior 6'4 244 lbs) see above
3..Brandon Moore(RS Sophomore 6'5 244 lbs) good blocker, needs work on routes
4.Jeremy Jackson(Freshman 6'4 207 lbs) this is future prognostication...he could stay at WR
Offensive Line: Here's where it gets tricky and I will update this as needed in the future..This is an "as of now" line-up but, I am adding what it could look like after Spring..I'm also not doing height and weight on this position because, well, they are big boys and we know that.. :)
1. Left Tackle--Mark Huyge, with Omameh and Lewan in the wings...If Molk is not healthy this year I could see Omameh move to Right Tackle and Lewan to LT but, that's probably more likely for next year as Huyge is getting BIG and provides experience...Time will tell, watch for this one..
2. Left Guard--Steve Schilling, with Elliot Mealer and John Ferrara getting the 2nd and 3rd spots..I see no changes here unless Schilling were to get hurt..
3. Center--Dave Molk when he returns for Fall, followed closely by Rocko Khoury and Christian Pace..Also, IF needed, I could see Mike Schofield take over this position as well...He would be a tall Center but, he has the disposition you need at Center...A "I'm going to tear your head off mentality" and has the skill set as well..
4. Right Guard--Patrick Omameh, followed closely by Ricky Barnum and Quinton Washington...IF Molk is ready to go this Fall then, I expect to see Omameh stay at RG
5.Right Tackle--Perry Dorrenstein, followed very close by Mike Schofield...I for one cannot wait until this kid sees the field..He has the "Molk attitude" on the field and we NEED that in a bad way..
Tidbit--If Molk can't go for some reason then this is my prediction pre-Fall for starting line-up
LT---Omameh, LG--Schilling, C--Khoury, RG--Barnum, RT--Huyge...Also, just one player update that I think you will like is that Taylor Lewan is up from 270 last year to 290 right now and has a "six pack" and could make a serious push at LT this year...All of our O-line is at 285 plus and are being molded into big, strong, agile, mobile smart football players...The future is really bright on the OL due to athleticism and only 3 guys in 2deep are Seniors...Very good news if you ask me..Did I say this is going to be an exciting Spring yet? haha

1.Justin Turner(RS Freshman 6'2 192) Coaches dream for size and ability at CB..Let's hope it translates on the field...It better or we are in trouble!!
2.JT Floyd(RS Sophomore 6'1 187) Look for either Cullen Christian or Demar Dorsey fight for time here.
3.Demar Dorsey(Freshman 6'1 181) Best athlete at UM in 10 years (imo)

3.Jordan Kovacs(RS Sophomore 5'11 193) I wanted to put him at the 2 spot but, M-rob is just to big and college ready right now...You could see these 2 flip-flop depending on Spring results..

There is a look at the 2010 depth chart with projected positions and possible battles and position changes...As I said before, this will be the most exciting Spring since Rich Rodriguez's arrival...We are 63 days away from the Spring game and I can honestly say, I wish it was next week..I hope to see as good or better turn out than last year...It truly was great to see the support that RR and staff have(and deserve imo)..
5 things I am looking for in UM for this season to have a successful year:
1..Turnover's---Hold on to the football and we will have success...Last year we could have won 4 more games IF we didn't have so many turnover's within each game...If you limit the T.O's we had last year to half this year(although still to many), we will see a huge spike in success...We beat ourselve's to many times last year and if RR is going to stick around at UM, THIS has to be the #1 focus in Spring
2..Attitude-----This team desperately needs to regain that "swagger" they had the first 4 weeks of last year...After Molk went out, it seemed like the whole teams "mental toughness" DEFLATED....We need more than one vocal leader this year...We need guys who demand success from others or sit the bench..
3..Development---This team is under an extreme transformation and our S&C program is molding these guys into giant, mobile monsters...I believe this will be the year we finally see what MAGIC Mike Barwis has worked in his short tenure here...I am hearing GLOWING reports on A LOT of the OL along with others as well...
4..Fundamentals---We absolutely need to continue to work on reading plays, playing fast and tackling well...You will see a much more fundamentally sound team this year...They are supposed to simplify the system some what which should lead to less read and re-act and be more active..The coaches have been beating this topic like a drum and now it's TIME for the PLAYERS to show them/us why they came to UM...
5..Chemistry-------The TEAM all needs to be on the same page or as we all know the phrase "all-in"... Not only in buying in but also "gelling" on the field as a team..We absolutely cannot have anyone still "wondering" if this is the right fit or place for them...Once we have a total "buy in", it is and will be a much easier transition and will lead to a cohesive, high character group that will be a FAMILY for life...Look for a few more guys to face the "decision" once Spring ball rolls around..
RR and company are building Michigan into one of the fastest teams in the nation in just 2 years...If this translates on the field in a positive fashion, which I feel it will, the success from this will be MONUMENTAL..If you sit down and digest everything he has done for this program(sans the fball record) since his arrival, you should be just as excited as I am about the future..Rome wasn't built in one day and obviously this team hasn't been either...Fwiw--it was a beautiful sight once Rome was completed and I have no doubts that if given the proper time, RR and company will have us at a level unseen by most that are alive and have followed UM football their entire lives..
I can't begin to tell you how excited I truly am about this class...Especially if you think about the potential it has and how we achieved it...Not often do you find a talent rich class after completing 2 of the worst years experienced in UM football history...Just imagine what the future classes will look like once we start winning on a BIG TIME level...We will be a national powerhouse for years to come very, very soon..Here's to 2010 being the beginning of the new era and the dominance it should provide...
Lastly, I know it's early and we don't have a lot of scholarships to give out this year as of now but, wouldn't it be nice to add a stud LB, DL and OL to the class of 2011 in the near future? I do and I think it's real possible.. I think we will get to 19 or 20 when it's all said and done so, I won't "worry" about space just yet...

Some of you might have noticed that I have Mike Cox at Max back instead of Super back...I believe you will see this happen for a couple reasons...1..He has gained good weight, he can block well, he has good speed, he is one of our BEST pass catchers out of the back-field and most importantly, I believe Mark Moundros is being moved in Spring to an LB position so, Mike Cox is the PERFECT fit at this position (imo) at a position of need!! Unless we are going to really "open it up" this year on offense and the FB position is not needed as much with different formations and players being added..Did I say this is going to be an exciting Spring yet?

Offensive Line: Here's where it gets tricky and I will update this as needed in the future..This is an "as of now" line-up but, I am adding what it could look like after Spring..I'm also not doing height and weight on this position because, well, they are big boys and we know that.. :)
1. Left Tackle--Mark Huyge, with Omameh and Lewan in the wings...If Molk is not healthy this year I could see Omameh move to Right Tackle and Lewan to LT but, that's probably more likely for next year as Huyge is getting BIG and provides experience...Time will tell, watch for this one..
2. Left Guard--Steve Schilling, with Elliot Mealer and John Ferrara getting the 2nd and 3rd spots..I see no changes here unless Schilling were to get hurt..
3. Center--Dave Molk when he returns for Fall, followed closely by Rocko Khoury and Christian Pace..Also, IF needed, I could see Mike Schofield take over this position as well...He would be a tall Center but, he has the disposition you need at Center...A "I'm going to tear your head off mentality" and has the skill set as well..
4. Right Guard--Patrick Omameh, followed closely by Ricky Barnum and Quinton Washington...IF Molk is ready to go this Fall then, I expect to see Omameh stay at RG
5.Right Tackle--Perry Dorrenstein, followed very close by Mike Schofield...I for one cannot wait until this kid sees the field..He has the "Molk attitude" on the field and we NEED that in a bad way..
Tidbit--If Molk can't go for some reason then this is my prediction pre-Fall for starting line-up
LT---Omameh, LG--Schilling, C--Khoury, RG--Barnum, RT--Huyge...Also, just one player update that I think you will like is that Taylor Lewan is up from 270 last year to 290 right now and has a "six pack" and could make a serious push at LT this year...All of our O-line is at 285 plus and are being molded into big, strong, agile, mobile smart football players...The future is really bright on the OL due to athleticism and only 3 guys in 2deep are Seniors...Very good news if you ask me..Did I say this is going to be an exciting Spring yet? haha

Welcome to " Willis' World"--- inside the octagon..Things I know, things I don't
Smell that? I do..Ahhh, the smell of Spring is just around the corner...Today starts my internal Spring football countdown and today we are only 75 days away from the 2010 University of Michigan Spring football game...For those that don't already know, it is on Saturday, April 17th and it will start roughly between the hours of 12 pm and 1pm..I hope to see a lot of you in attendance..Last Spring was a beautiful day and a TERRIFIC turnout by the UM fans and alum...Let's pack the house this year, what do you say?
On to football...Things I know---The 2010 UM offense will still be young and a work in progress but, make no mistake about it..We have an electric set of athletes that have been added to the roster with the last 2 recruiting classes which should pay big dividends for this new style offense in A2...A lot of them will be in their second year as well which adds much needed experience on the football field..We should see a WORLD of difference in the offense this year..Side note, I really like our last 2 classes..Imo, a lot of these kids will be big time players in Ann Arbor over the course of the next couple years...There is A LOT of under-rated talent in these last 2 classes on both sides of the ball...Not just my opinion by the way..
The offense last year was inconsistent at best but, I would contribute that to a bunch of freshman or inexperienced guys having to fill holes, injuries and oh yeah, UN-forced FUMBLES...This year will be a LIGHT-YEARS difference in what we saw last year(more on this later)..If you think about it, even though it was RR's 2nd year, it was truly his FIRST full year within the system..Last year was where he actually had 2 QB's that could run this system, albeit freshman's...They simply didn't have that "luxury" in his first year and it showed..
Things I don't know(starting positions)-- The QB position battle and the RB battle this Spring will be the positions I watch the most in regards to offense...I truly believe that we will see Tate Forcier win the QB battle this Spring which would let us utilize Denard Robinson in a variety of ways...The coaches wanted to do this last year but, when you don't have QB depth in this system, you're simply not going to "risk it"..We added 2 more stud QB's to this class so depth is no longer an issue, as of now.. The RB position is far from secure so, that should also be a very fun one to watch as well..We need a "go-to-guy" to say the least and V Smith is him as long as he's healthy..Again, the starting job will be earned in Spring but, that is who I'm going with as far as the beginning of this year goes..This will be a very different looking and functioning offense going into next fall and I for one can't wait to see this future juggernaut explode..We averaged 29.8 a game last year with an inexperienced, young offense with the case of fumbilitis..I EXPECT to see all areas improved and if they do, LOOK OUT...This offense will be tough to stop in the very near future..
Players to keep an eye on for Spring on offense that we haven't seen much of---T Lewan, Qwashington, R Barnum,Fitz Touissant, Mike Cox, Mike shaw, J Stokes, J Gallon
The 2010 Defense will be the key to failure or success (imo)...With it being the 2nd full year under Greg Robinson, I believe we will see a much more cohesive group...I have read that G-rob plans to simplify the Defense a little bit so that the players are on their "toes" and not their "heels"..You should see a much more active defense this year(let's hope so)...Losing B Graham, Donovan Warren and Stevie Brown will definitely hurt but, the defense this year should be much faster and a lot more fun to watch due to it's athleticism and knowledge of the same system...There should be quite a few changes but, it should be for the better...Let's hope we get a "death roh" (CR) performance out of 2 freshman this year like the one freshman sensation we had last year..I have a feeling we will see 2 new faces..We just need the Defense to be good not GREAT at UM while running the read-option spread..If so, we will be very hard to beat.. I would also love to hear people's thoughts on who they would want as the next D asst coach (DB or LB)and why? This will be of huge interest to me in the coming weeks...
Here's the base Defense that I would like to see(before Spring) but, would love to hear others input as well... DL--MM, WC, RVB.. LB--Mouton(maybe K Demens after spring) Ezeh(maybe Fitz or Leach after spring) DE/OLB--C Roh LB/SS--Hawthorne or M Jones...CB--JT Turner and T woolfolk FS--Kovacs or Marvin Robinson and SS--Vlad Emilien or Cullen Christian..Of course, all of this will get ironed out after/during Spring but, I just wanted to share my take on how it might look...Again, interested in hearing anyone else's line-ups..
My players on D to keep on eye on that we haven't seen or seen much of--M-Rob, CC, Kenny Wilkins, JB Fitz, K Demens, JT Turner and J Paskorz... I know some might be asking themselves why JP? I did to until I was told by 2 different sources that JP has been a weight room animal and has beefed up from 230 to the 265-270 range already..He apparently has kept up his mobility and is doing great...He is considered to be another steal of class...They expect to see him crack the 2 deep by this fall...I would love it if that came to fruition and the information was indeed 100% correct..I have no doubts that it is fwiw..
Some people think we are going to get shut-out come signing day..Some think we are going to get one..Some think if we get 2 it has to be a certain 2..I'm going to put on my snake-skin sun glasses and say we get 2 and it will be DD and SP..That is more "possible" than it is "probable" and it's also just MY opinion..But hey, I can dream big can't I?

On to football...Things I know---The 2010 UM offense will still be young and a work in progress but, make no mistake about it..We have an electric set of athletes that have been added to the roster with the last 2 recruiting classes which should pay big dividends for this new style offense in A2...A lot of them will be in their second year as well which adds much needed experience on the football field..We should see a WORLD of difference in the offense this year..Side note, I really like our last 2 classes..Imo, a lot of these kids will be big time players in Ann Arbor over the course of the next couple years...There is A LOT of under-rated talent in these last 2 classes on both sides of the ball...Not just my opinion by the way..
The offense last year was inconsistent at best but, I would contribute that to a bunch of freshman or inexperienced guys having to fill holes, injuries and oh yeah, UN-forced FUMBLES...This year will be a LIGHT-YEARS difference in what we saw last year(more on this later)..If you think about it, even though it was RR's 2nd year, it was truly his FIRST full year within the system..Last year was where he actually had 2 QB's that could run this system, albeit freshman's...They simply didn't have that "luxury" in his first year and it showed..
Things I don't know(starting positions)-- The QB position battle and the RB battle this Spring will be the positions I watch the most in regards to offense...I truly believe that we will see Tate Forcier win the QB battle this Spring which would let us utilize Denard Robinson in a variety of ways...The coaches wanted to do this last year but, when you don't have QB depth in this system, you're simply not going to "risk it"..We added 2 more stud QB's to this class so depth is no longer an issue, as of now.. The RB position is far from secure so, that should also be a very fun one to watch as well..We need a "go-to-guy" to say the least and V Smith is him as long as he's healthy..Again, the starting job will be earned in Spring but, that is who I'm going with as far as the beginning of this year goes..This will be a very different looking and functioning offense going into next fall and I for one can't wait to see this future juggernaut explode..We averaged 29.8 a game last year with an inexperienced, young offense with the case of fumbilitis..I EXPECT to see all areas improved and if they do, LOOK OUT...This offense will be tough to stop in the very near future..

The 2010 Defense will be the key to failure or success (imo)...With it being the 2nd full year under Greg Robinson, I believe we will see a much more cohesive group...I have read that G-rob plans to simplify the Defense a little bit so that the players are on their "toes" and not their "heels"..You should see a much more active defense this year(let's hope so)...Losing B Graham, Donovan Warren and Stevie Brown will definitely hurt but, the defense this year should be much faster and a lot more fun to watch due to it's athleticism and knowledge of the same system...There should be quite a few changes but, it should be for the better...Let's hope we get a "death roh" (CR) performance out of 2 freshman this year like the one freshman sensation we had last year..I have a feeling we will see 2 new faces..We just need the Defense to be good not GREAT at UM while running the read-option spread..If so, we will be very hard to beat.. I would also love to hear people's thoughts on who they would want as the next D asst coach (DB or LB)and why? This will be of huge interest to me in the coming weeks...
Here's the base Defense that I would like to see(before Spring) but, would love to hear others input as well... DL--MM, WC, RVB.. LB--Mouton(maybe K Demens after spring) Ezeh(maybe Fitz or Leach after spring) DE/OLB--C Roh LB/SS--Hawthorne or M Jones...CB--JT Turner and T woolfolk FS--Kovacs or Marvin Robinson and SS--Vlad Emilien or Cullen Christian..Of course, all of this will get ironed out after/during Spring but, I just wanted to share my take on how it might look...Again, interested in hearing anyone else's line-ups..
